A MONARCH BUTTERFLY HATCHES AS WE SING "PUREREHUA"

It was amazing that, just as we were having our morning waiata, Hirini Melbourne's song "Purerehua" (the song of the lifecycle of a butterfly), the chrysalis that we have had sitting on the windowsill for a week decided that it was time to open up. So, we watched in fascination, and composed our thoughts about this wonderful event.  This is what Aoife wrote
"As I wriggle and eat as much as I can, I am growing bigger by the day. As the days come and go I get an urge to dangle from my branch. As I'm dangling I twist and turn forming a prison-like sleeping bag.
I'm in there for about a month, changing, growing
into something strange, something beautiful and something much different from what I was before.I wriggle and turn until my tight prison cracks open.I am wet and soggy. I flap my wings, helping to push the blood through my veins. I can feel the sun warming up my wings. After an hour I am confident to fly, so I push myself off the branch. For the very first time I'm free."
