Room 8's Solar Energy Science Experiments

Heating water by magnifying the Sun's rays.

We laid out one polythene tube filled with cold water on the grass,

and one on the concrete and left them in the Sun for an hour.

The water in both of them got almost too hot to bear on our hands, 46 degrees
Lovely Sun-heated water!

The boys heated up the water using mirrors to reflect the Sun's rays. It got very hot!

Then we had a challenge to see who could cook an egg using solar energy. Many strange solar cookers were invented.

The winner! Well cooked!  (Using a satellite television dish covered with tinfoil.)
