Fun on the Run
One of the fun things we did for our outdoor activity day was orienteering.
First we learned how to use a proper orienteering compass. We set the dial to the number we were given on the first clue. This is called the bearing.
Once you have set the bearing you hold the compass against your tummy and turn your body until the needle lines up with north. The arrow at the tip compass is pointing in the correct direction. The clue tells you what you're looking for. When you decide what the destination is, you race off to it.
We find the next clue, reset our compasses and charge off to the next destination. We zigzagged all around the school, going to twenty clues.
Our last clue told us 21 steps to the east, and dig for treasure.
Yay! At last we found the treasure, and quickly gobbled it up.
